State Field Championships 2015
THANKS. I wish to give special thanks to Gina Carmichael and John Magera, who saw to the finishing of the setup the day before the event! William Carey also helped me through his familiarity with the AAC archery facility in decisions on several target placements and setup for the course, as did Don Ferguson, longtime TSAA member and barebow archer. The words are often said, but I must argue loudly, that the event could not have been done without the help of these volunteers.
Rick Stonebraker also was instrumental in my education in the thought process of laying out a FITA Field course, and patiently answering even the most rudimentary (and dumb) questions. I like to think that many of the trickiest aspects of the course were due to me beginning to think like Rick does on layouts, but that would be gross self-flattery. Even so, I am grateful to Rick in many, many ways. Finally, I have to complement Rory Bartos as the FITA judge who managed to be everywhere he was needed. As I roamed the course during the event, checking bales, improving little things and taking many photographs, Rory seemed to always be shadowing a different group of archers every time I came upon them, and I worked diligently to find ALL the different groups so that I could get some photos of all.
Thank you to all the archers and their families. Gus Braendle's dad pronounced it the best archery tournament he had ever been to. Of course, that was because he and family dropped Gus off to labor at the pegs, and they went to SkiShores, a lakeside restaurant just minutes away, and spent the rest of the time at one of Austin's best lakeside parks on Lake Austin!
I hope we all can get together again next May, when things are a little cooler, the wildflowers are in bloom, and do it all again.
