At least 58 gentlemen archers and 38 lady archers were present to shoot a FITA tournament of 4 rounds of 30 arrows per round, 3 arrows per end, shot 20 meters at 40 cm 10-ring targets (or 3-spot 5-ring targets).
There were 27 JOAD gentlemen and 16 JOAD ladies participating in the NAA JOAD tournament of 30 arrows per round, two rounds, shot 20 meters at a 60 cm target. Kevin Barker of the South Texas JOAD club in Victoria shot TWO Olympian level scores, Trey Reagan of the Tiger Sharks JOAD of Blessing,TX shot his first Olympian, and Lindsey Carmichael of Archery Country JOAD in Austin shot her first Olympian. This was only the second time in seven years that a JOAD Olympian score has been turned in by a US NAA Southern Region Lady!
The venue was the first-class gymnasium/sagittorium at Texas A&M University in College Station. This was a great kickoff for the
Texas 2001-2002 indoor archery season.
The results can be found on the A&M Archery website at the link below. A&M is one of the few Institutes for higher learning in the US that actively supports the Olympic sport of target archery, offering scholarships and the chance to letter in an athletic discipline for women students.
